Melissa Brown

Executive Director/ Assistant Coach

As the former director, Loretta Jonson says, "Our athletes never leave us." Melissa or "Coach Mel" is a former Metro Stars athlete with a passion for jump events. She is a graduate of Louisiana State University with a degree in Sports Administration and she has an MBA from the University of New Orleans. Coach Mel is a former National Record holder in the Long Jump. She is also a two-time Junior Olympic Medalist and Gatorade All American Athlete.

Pamela Recasner

Assistant Coach

Coach Recasner is a native of Nashville, Tennessee. She ran college track for Fisk University and graduated from Tennessee State University, both in Nashville, Tennessee. She relocated to New Orleans in the summer of 2018. Coach Recasner is an Army Veteran and former police officer. She most recently was a high school educator for the past 14 years teaching Criminal Justice and African-American History while serving as the school’s Head Boys/Girls Track Coach. Coach Recasner was the 2018 All-Area Girls Track Coach of the Year winning the Rutherford County Championships, Sub-Sectionals and Sectionals that year. She had over 30 athletes qualify for the State Championship Meet each year. Coach Recasner was also the 2018 Tennessee Social Studies Council Teacher of the Year. She is currently an Assoc. Dean of Culture at International High School of New Orleans and Head Girls Track Coach.

Derek Mills

Head Coach

Derek Mills was a 1996 Olympic Games gold medalist in the men's 4×400 meter relay for the United States. He has a career best of 44.13 in the 400 m. After going to college at Georgia Tech in Atlanta and winning the 1994 NCAA Championship in the 400 m at Boise, Idaho, Mills ran to a #2 World Ranking behind Michael Johnson, breaking 45.00 seven times that year.

A native of Washington, D.C., Mills attended DemMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. Mills Received his juris doctor for Tulane University Law School and his MBA from the Freeman School of Business at Tulane University in 2006.

Hannah Gallen

Brandon Scott
Volunteer Coach

Coach Brandon grew up in New Orleans, LA where he was recognized as an All-Metro sprinter at Lusher Charter School, winning various state medals and competing on the AAU circuit. He went on to run at Villanova University before transferring to Louisiana State University where he earned his degree in Economics.

Coach Brandon is in his second year of coaching and is also newly married to his wife, Kristin.
